Natives to Palmdale, California for 22 years, Chuck and Tia Laird had deep roots in the desert sand and were not planning to move anywhere. Chuck was the owner/manager of two small businesses, a community water treatment company and a powder coating shop. Tia home schooled and held together the home with 5 kids. God revealed Himself to the Lairds as they sought Him in His Word and a call to ministry formed as a result. Growing, serving and fellowshipping at Calvary Chapel Antelope Valley, the Laird family took many missions trips to Mexico. It was here on the short term mission trips that they first began to hear God’s call to the mission field. Chuck and Tia enrolled in a Pastoral training class for couples under Pastor Tommy DeSantis at Calvary Chapel Santa Clarita and the family began fellowshipping there. Chuck and Tia then caught Pastor Tommy’s vision from Eph 4:12 “For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ”. After three years Chuck was ordained a Pastor. Tia rose to her call as a “Pastor’s help mate” discipling and teaching young women the ways of the Lord. Life was easy in Palmdale and Chuck and Tia began to pray about starting a church there in their home. God had other plans. God provided for a vision tour for Chuck and Clay to travel through Honduras to “look for ministries they could help from the States”. God’s life changing vision unfolded as they ended up on the island of Roatan where they got the call to teach the Word of God and to work in drinking water treatment.
God opened the doors and things went very quickly after that. With Pastor Tommy and the board of CC Santa Clarita behind them they sold their house and businesses and moved to Roatan, Honduras within 5 months. With God moving again they were able to start buying a beautiful vacant hotel to use as a home, church, medical clinic, and a missionary inn.
After 10 months:
· The church “Son Rise Calvary” is growing and meeting 3 times a week with discipling groups on week days.
· Water systems are being installed and water is being treated for drinking.
· Miss Peggy’s Clinic has partnered with us at the inn and is serving many people with very low cost Christian medical care.
· Our first Grandchild, Charlotte, was born in La Ceiba, Honduras, June 19, 2005
· Our sixth child, Carlton, was born on the island July 21, 2005
· The “Son Rise Missionary Inn” is receiving long and short term teams to work in the community, blessing the people and showing the Word of God in action.
· A coffee roasting ministry has been started to employ single mothers and help support the inn. It uses the best Honduran beans for roasting, bagging and selling gourmet coffee to the large tourist groups that come to the island.
God is so good and has truly given the Lairds His heart for Honduras and the joy of serving Him.
Please pray for them and the vision to be used in binding the Word of Truth in the hearts of the people of Roatan, raising more into His service.
